Fairfield Church, Evesham. Service 11th June 2017

This week, we welcome Team A, that is, John Darby, Pete and Julie Rowell to lead the service for us. There will be breakfast as usual consisting of sausages, fruit and toast and of course lashings of hot tea from the big yellow teapot or freshly brewed coffee (which you will be pleased to hear are in their own coffee cafetieres!)  Come to Fairfield Church, Evesham to see for yourself, you will receive a great welcome.

Here are the worship songs we’ll be singing this week – and we have the fabulous Charlie Binney playing keyboard with the resident band.

Also, thanks to Richard Sandland for transposing this weeks music for Mr Neil ‘the sax’ Hewitt.

The reading this week is Matthew 28:16-20.  It is a very famous passage about what is known as Jesus’ Great Commission to us.

The songs I’ve chosen I feel reflect that passage.  In ‘Be Thou My Vision’ we are asking God to help us focus on him and his mission.  If we are to go and make disciples of all nations, a good place to start would be our church in Evesham, Fairfield Church.  Who around us in our community could we talk to this week about Jesus.

The second song is of a similar ilk, in that it asks God to ‘Open the Eyes of our Heart’.  We are asking God to show us the world through his eyes, and I think this is really important if we are to look for opportunities to speak to people about Jesus.

Thirdly, ‘Men of Faith’ and before you get all bent our of shape about that…. there is also ‘Women of Truth’ involved in the song.  This song asks God to help us even when our hearts are broken to sing to the broken hearted of God’s love.

Our last song of the day, ‘May the Words of my Mouth’ – well you can listen to it and work out for yourself, what we may be singing about in terms of bringing others to discipleship.

Matthew 28:16-20 New Living Translation

The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,[a] baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

We look forward to seeing you at Fairfield Church, Evesham, 10 am on Sundays.
